Mo Chara Mo Currach

My Friend, My Currach

Keeping a living currach tradition alive

A Tradition Worth Keeping

The currach is a symbol of survival, ingenuity, and community on the west coast of Ireland. On Achill Island, this vessel shaped the lives of generations of coastal families. Built by hand using timber, canvas, and tar, and launched into some of the most challenging waters in Europe.

We are establishing an exciting project at Achill Island, a place where currachs are conserved, skills are passed on, and the living tradition of these remarkable boats is kept alive for the next generation.

We are at the very beginning of this journey. There is much more to come.
